Hello Citizens and welcome to the 9th devblog for the Metalands game. From progress on the Rainforest map, to third person clips of gameplay, we have a lot of things to check out, so fasten your seatbelts and prepare for an awesome ride!
- Default bunker revamp
- New character outfits and environment models
- Third Person Controller testing
- Rainforest Map updates
- More work on the UI
We always strive to give new players the best experience possible. Even though we were happy with the way the default bunker looked, we wanted to give players that are starting out, a more enhanced looking environment where they will spend a major amount of time in.
The new version of the default bunker comes with an upgrade in textures, lighting, post processing and design.
Here are some renders and a video of the new default bunker:
We also worked on the vault -The room in the bunker where all of the player’s items are stored- where we made sure using it feels as interactive and intuitive as possible.
As we are continuing on the development of multiplayer, our modelers are working hard on creating high fidelity assets that enhance the quality of the game.
Every asset in the environment of Metalands is built by our in-house 3d modelers. These items can take many hours of work in modeling and texturing.
We are also working on more gear for the human characters, so that the looks of players in online games are diverse and repetitiveness does not come up in any game.
Almost all of the development focus right now is at multiplayer and gameplay. This week we finished the work of the third person controller. You can see our progress on the video below:
The animations in Metalands use Unity’s built in animation system, where our developers set up complex behaviours and transitions, in order for the character movement to look as fluid as possible. On the next video you can see a very simple example of using unity’s animation system.
The rainforest map is our most ambitious environment yet. Featuring a complex organic environment filled with natural terrain and vegetation, this map has had our modelers and game designers spend many hours designing, creating, testing and iterating through many layouts and versions. We are now happy to be able to show even more renders from this amazing environment!
The views in this map have our entire team watching in awe. We are really excited as we are waiting its release along with the multiplayer gameplay update.
What you are seeing in these images is not just about the models. This environment is the result of great design, beautiful lighting and post-processing, and an ultra-realistic volumetric sky that takes the lighting and the entire feel of the map to the next level.
We are now closer to finishing the primary work of the bunker experience for our multiplayer release. The new innovative 3D UI brings us a step closer to our dream product.
Our UI design is focused on displaying all the needed information compactly and accessibly. The crafting station and the character customization UI are some of the last pieces of the user experience puzzle, and now that they are ready we are one step closer to the complete bunker integration into the game.
