Meta files 8 trademark applications including crypto trading within the metaverse

Since its rebranding, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta (NASDAQ: FB), formerly known as Facebook, has made it clear that it intends to expand into the metaverse and has now made steps toward introducing virtual services and crypto trading.

Specifically, the company has filed eight new trademark applications to register its logo, indicating the social media giant plans to expand into various crypto and virtual products and services, such as cryptocurrencies, tokens, crypto trading, blockchain software, and cryptocurrency exchanges.

Licensed metaverse trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis announced the news in a press release on ExpertClick on Wednesday, March 23, as well as with a tweet detailing all the items that the applications cover.

Commenting on the new trademarks, which Meta submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on March 18, 2022, Mr. Kondoudis said that:

“These filings reflect the company’s strategy for moving into the metaverse. Meta clearly has significant plans for the virtual economy that will drive it.”

The trademark attorney concluded that:

“Meta’s latest trademark filings will surely be of interest to participants in the financial sector and beyond”.

Notably, Meta is just another metaverse participant among an assortment of corporations, brands, celebrities, and even sports teams taking interest in the space and expanding it with their trademark applications.

Only a couple of days before press time, Finbold reported of the French football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) filing trademarks that will allow it to offer multimedia backed by non-fungible tokens (NFTs), along with crypto wallets, cryptocurrency transaction management, virtual clothing, digital sports gear, and electronics.

American Express (NYSE: AXP) jumped on the metaverse bandwagon a week before, filing for seven new trademark applications for its name, logo, and slogans. This will allow the credit card service company to offer NFT-backed multimedia, virtual banking, cryptocurrency services, and exchange services.

Meanwhile, the celebrity newcomers to the metaverse include the recording artist Billie Eilish, whose company Lash Music LLC filed for trademark applications for Eilish’s name and the Blohsh logo in late February.
